Miami is still in the hands of the wereleopard clan. Sekhmet's assassination has been dealt with, and Samara's attempt to take over the city has been stopped for now. But things aren't simple for Kess, especially now that she has Samara's son, Rafe, to deal with. While others see only a spy, Kess is determined to help the damaged young man abandoned by his mother.

Rafe is torn his mother left him in the hands of the wereleopards, presumably to die, but Kess has treated him more like a guest than a prisoner. But Rafe still feels a sense of loyalty to his werehyena pack, and he's uniquely placed to gather information that his mother will need if she ever hopes to take Miami. Things grow even more complicated for the young werehyena when Cormac's non-were sister comes to town for a visit. Rafe finds himself fascinated by the girl, finding more and more reasons to question his loyalty to his pack.

Rafe knows his mother isn't done with Miami or Kess. In the final bloody conflict between wereleopard and hyena, which side will he choose?

This was just an okay read for me. It started out really well, and the final third of the book was good, but I got kind of bored in the middle. There was just too much Lenore and Rafe, and their chemistry and head noise. I felt a lot of that could have been omitted, and it would have made for a read that would have vowed better.

I liked that Cormac's family and friends, and Laila came back in the story. I liked the action in the last third of the book, nd how it ended. I liked the set up and how Lenore came to be in Miami. I also like the scenes with Samara and Teresa, as they added a little something vicious.

I am surprised to say this, but I'm interested to see how the council dynamics work, and to see if Cormac still remains important to Kess.

Hyena Moon Moon series Book 3 eBook Jeanette Battista Reviews

I love this author because everything she writes is predictable. I was getting tired of plot twists, and I needed something where I could know what would happen subconsciously. Very very good, a little corny with the werebeasts but whatever. Lilawlerz@kindle.com
Great series of books (Moon). Loved the characters. Lots of excitement and humor.
The amazing series continues! Now focusing on Rafe, the young werehyena left behind at the end of Jackal Moon, and his struggle for understanding what he is supposed to do while living with Kess. In the first two books, he author focused a bit more on the romance between two of the characters (which was good), but in this installment, she gets down to all the strategies and the character's emotions. Jeanette doesn't take the skeleton from the first book throughout the whole series, instead she mixes it up for each book which is extremely refreshing ). Highly recomend the Moon series.
This volume I liked because it paints a different view and idealism on the where work rafes a strong and interesting voice ..

It's about finding ones self and place in the world

I was greatly pleased at all the action but perfectly portioned romance in this book the twist and turns left you breathless and nail biting for more on the edge of your seat this book had strong characters and even stronger plot
I'm really referring to the entire moon series. I thoroughly enjoyed these books. I'm a male reader and I think it's tough to find books in this genre that don't linger in the so called romantic can of emotional worms and tortured souls. Solid character building and well thought out story lines (as well as professional writing quality) made these books a five on my scale. Would recommend to just about anyone.
Hyena Moon is the story of Rafe's decision on where his loyalties lay and the werehyena's attempt to take Miami by force. I would suggest that if you haven't read Leopard Moon and Jackal Moon then you should do that first, otherwise you may not get the full gist of this.

This book is well written and engrossing and the characters are again developed well. Even though this book is written mainly through Rafe's eyes, there are still chapters that focus on Kess, Cormac, Finn and Laila and for this I am grateful. I really love how we are able to follow the main characters through each book and gain further insights into each of them.

The challenges that Kess faces in Hyena Moon and the way she handles them shows her strength in leadership, but also enables us to get a further glimpse into her personal struggles as well. I really like her as the main heroine and the end of this book tore at my heart strings a bit for that reason.

I enjoyed this book more than Jackal Moon because of the added tension - I just wasn't sure exactly which way Rafe was going to lean and how that would impact on Kess and the other weres. I was not disappointed!
The action of Hyena Moon picks up right at the end of Jackal Moon Finn and Cormac are still in Miami helping out Kess (now head of the wereleopards) and Rafe, the abused and unwanted son of the Alpha Hyena Female, Samara, is living with them.

Nobody trusts Rafe, including himself. Only Kess seems to want to give him a chance. How will Kess cope with Rafe, difficulties with Cormac's protectiveness, and the possibility of losing Miami to Samara?

Well, I didn't get the closure I was hoping for in this installment. Although Hyena Moon hints at a plan that would let Kess go back to North Carolina with Cormac, leaving behind her head wereleopard duties, it isn't happening anytime soon.

Moreover, the cast of characters we are following is growing. Now we spend time in the POV of Kess, Finn, Cormac, Lenore, Rafe, and evil Samara.

This is probably mostly a personal taste thing. While I am not adverse to POV jumps, they tend to work better for me in epic fantasies with intricate plots. When I'm hankering after YA paranormal with a twist of romance, it doesn't work so well. I want to spend time in the head of the character who is growing and changing, not just have their growth summarized.

The longest time we spend in Cormac sister's, Lenore's, POV is when she is still being kind of a spoiled brat in North Carolina. After she comes down to Miami, and she grows and gets more interesting, we see her mostly from other POV. I never got into her character, really, and so this book's romance never touched me.

And then there's Rafe. Loved Rafe. Poor tortured, self-doubting, earnest boy with a fringe of hair covering his scars and his wounded soul. I wanted much, much more of him and less of Kess and Cormac discussing wereleopard strategy.

So maybe I'm not entirely truthful with the "no closure" statement as by the end of the book, Samara has been dealt with (in the most exciting scene of the book) but for the main pairs; Finn/Laila, Kess/Cormac, and Lenore/Rafe, things are very much up in the air.

This Book's Snack Rating Like eating doritos for the still-yummy characters, but ending up with fingers covered in POV powdered cheese
This was just an okay read for me. It started out really well, and the final third of the book was good, but I got kind of bored in the middle.
